Birds

Blue Tit feeding on a fat-ball (click to enlarge)

Blue Tits are among the most frequent visitors to our bird feeders. It is not uncommon to have five taking it in turns on the same feeder.

We quite often see flocks of geese flying over our house but on this occasion they decided to land on the green in front of our house.

Chaffinch (click to enlarge)

Another regular visitor is the Chaffinch.

A pair of collared doves (click to enlarge)

These two Collared Doves were perched on the arch together for hours, so I was able to get a nice photo of them.

Great Tits come and visit us as regularly as the Blue Tits do. There is a pecking order when both species are feeding on the nuts.

Long Tailed Tits (click to enlarge)

During the Summer months we don't see the Long Tailed Tits unless we walk down to the river. During autumn and winter they come and visit much more regularly. It is not unusual to see five or six together.

A lot of the time, different species argue over the "pecking order" but on the odd occasion they all seem to co-operate with one another - as these pictures show.

A Pheasant struts his stuff! (click to enlarge)

The nearby wood is quite alive with Pheasants - their calls quite often wake you up a 5:00 in the morning.

Sparrowhawk outside my bedroom window (click to enlarge)

The Sparrow Hawk has been visiting us occasionally and this time he stayed around long enough to photograph him!

Wood pigeon (click to enlarge)

Wood pigeons don't normally like human activity around them, but this one seems to be quite friendly - as long as you don't do anything to frighten him he will come into the garden. He has a little ritual before flying down though - he'll land on the side fence and pace up and down for five minutes before finally taking the plunge!

Woodpecker (click to enlarge)

The Woodpecker used to make holes in the bark of the birch trees until he realised we had put up a feeder for the other birds.
